The clients of this project had a large rear garden virtually unusable for their two young children.

Excavation work

Area to be developed

We needed to create a level area and access to the lower lawn while being child friendly.

We first cleared the existing wall, stone and soil, added concrete footings and a concrete block retaining wall.

Area to be developed

Block work construction

Block wall built for main structure

Next a dry stone affect wall was built from reclaimed stone which was mortared behind and tied into the block wall. The centre cavity was strengthened by adding concrete.

The upper area was then levelled with hardcore stone then Indian Paving laid in a random design. The top 1ft of the cavity of the wall was filled will topsoil and compost for box hedging to grow, in time would form a thick barrier while not being too harsh to the eye.

Lights were added to the steps and patio edge with railway sleepers forming different levels to the small plant bed area which was retained to add some colour to the garden.
